I’m sharing a very special life update with you guys today. For those who may not know for the past five years I’ve worked at an amazing company called Salesforce. I’ve always been so proud to say I work for one of Fortune Magazines 100 Best Places to Work. Cough cough we’re in 8th place. No big deal or anything.
Taking this job gave me the opportunity to follow a dream and move to New York City. My SVP said to me one lunch, “Jenna if that is what you want to do we’ll get you there. Every employee should have the opportunity to work in another office at some point. Whether that is in the U.S. or in another country. Let’s get you to New York.”
I’ll never forget that, nor take for granted the opportunity I was given at Salesforce. It’s with great excitement and a heavy heart when I say I’m on to the next adventure and that adventure will be taking a stab at full time blogging.
In 2009 my Mom called me one day and said, “Hey Jen, I read an article about blogs and I think blogging is going to be the next big thing. You should start a blog showcasing affordable fashion.” I kind of rolled my eyes and moved on. I mean what did my Mom really know about it, right? Oh my goodness!! I should have listened to her then. I started my blog Trendy Not Spendy three years ago in San Francisco. Sharing my talent for bargain hunting, style steals, and all things affordable fashion and lifestyle has always been a passion of mine. I was ready for a new hobby and I was excited to create my blog.
It wasn’t too serious in the beginning. A post here and a post there. I even took pictures on my own with my iPhone set up on a tripod. I bet you guys never even noticed the remote control in my hand clicking away. When I moved to New York I learned quick that the blogger/influencer market is pretty damn big in NYC.
At the time I also didn’t have many friends in New York and I thought blogging would be a great way to meet more people. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some of the most incredible and supportive woman in this industry. Not only has blogging helped me create friendships it has helped me find a true passion that I want to pursue.
When it came to figuring what I was going to do after Salesforce I knew I really wanted to give blogging a shot. Writing content and working with brands that support the Trendy Not Spendy brand has been absolutely rewarding and I am hopeful for everything to come. I know it won’t be easy. I know I need to create structure and set goals for myself in order to succeed. Let the hustle begin! I can’t wait to see what this exciting journey has in store.
